Color and Trim designer: job description

He defines and designs the ambiances, colors and materials for the interior of a car, in coherence with the brand image and the trends, while integrating the economic and industrial constraints.

A trend expert, the « color and trim » car designer is responsible for the research and development of the ambiances, materials, colours designed for the interior and exterior of a vehicle.

He works mainly in an in-house design office of a car manufacturing company, for an automotive supplier, or for a design studio or a service provider.

The « Mobility » major of our design curriculum allows to practice this profession.

Job duties and responsabilities

The « color and trim » car designer works in close collaboration with the « exterior » and « interior » designers, as well as with the marketing and product team, the ergonomists, the technical engineers who work on the concept and industrialization of the new vehicles.

Average salary

48,000 € a year

Skills

The « colour and trim » designer must excel in visual expression (sketches, visuals, 3D modeling, mock-up) and must know how to materialize and communicate his ideas. He has good cultural, artistic and technical knowledge, as well as a good understanding of the trends and lifestyle evolutions.

Thanks to his good relational skills and his open-mindedness, he is focused on the project and particularly at ease with teamwork.
